The Bellwether
Portrait

The guests are arriving at Bellwether House. The exhibition’s centrepiece is missing. An unsigned note insists it is safe—and six records hold the combination to the archive.

Reconstruct a hanging plan, balance a supply ledger, decode a message and follow the night patrol. Every answer brings you one digit closer.

01

Print your evidence

Choose A4 or US Letter. Single-sided pages work well; colour is optional.

02

Follow your curiosity

Lay out the records, split up the clues, then compare your reasoning. No one needs the answers beforehand.

03

Make the connection

Combine your six digits to open the archive. Use the separate hints whenever you need a nudge.

A SMALL TASTE OF THE MYSTERY

Your first clue
is on us.

This little warm-up is separate from the full game. Read the note and look at the beginning of each line. Which number is hiding there?

A hint, please

Take the first letter of every line, from top to bottom. The five letters spell a number.

No email address. No sign-up. Just a puzzle.

FOUND BEHIND AN EMPTY FRAME

Silent footsteps cross the hall.
Every frame holds something.
Voices fade beyond the door.
Even the clock has stopped.
No one has seen the portrait.

BEFORE YOU OPEN THE FILE

A few good
questions.

Do we need a host or special props?

No host needs to know the solutions. The player pages, a pencil and paper are enough. There are no physical locks, envelopes or scissors required.

Can I play on my own?

Yes. All six records can be solved by one person. They also work as a shared case, with players comparing answers and explanations.

What exactly will I receive?

The planned download contains an eight-page player pack and a separate four-page Hints and Solutions file, in both A4 and US Letter formats. It is a digital product; no physical item will be shipped.

How long will it take?

We haven’t completed independent timed playtests yet. There is no time limit; you can work through the six puzzles at your own pace.

Is this a murder mystery or a role-playing game?

It is a cooperative puzzle mystery about a missing painting. There is no murder, assigned character performance or required acting.

Can I buy it today?

Sales are not open yet. You can try the free puzzle now. Checkout, download delivery and seller information will be completed before the game goes on sale.
